ASSAM HUMAN DEVELOPMENT REPORT, 2014 - 70 % HOUSEHOLDS DO NOT HAVE TOILETS
Around 70 per cent (69.8) households in Assam do not have a toilet, as revealed by The Assam Human Development Report, 2014. It has also revealed that 31.7 per cent households of the state do not have electricity and 12.9 per cent households do not have drinking water facilities.
The report also reveals that barring Kamrup Metro (19.7) and Sibsagar (59.7) in all the districts of the states at least 60 per cent households do not have toilets. Darrang district has highest number of households without a toilet with 86.4 per cent, followed by Chirang (84.4) Karbi Anglong (83.8) and Dhemaji (82.5). The HDR, 2014 data has also revealed that 15 districts number of households do not have a toilet in over 70 per cent households.

The HDR, 2014 has revealed that 31.7 per cent households do not have provision of electricity. Hailakandi district number of houses without electricity facility with 74.1 per cent, followed by Sibsagar with 58.2, and Nalbari with 57.9 and Dhubri 52.8. Interestingly Udalguri district, is recorded the highest number of households with electricity and only 0.6 per cent households does not have electricity at home, according to HDR.
12.9 Per cent households does not have drinking water facilities at home. Hailakandi district has recorded the highest number of households without drinking water facilities with 53.9 per cent.
The HDR 2014 has revealed that drinking water is still a major issue in to address entire Barak valley as all three districts of the valely have higher percentage of households without having drinking water facilities. In Cachar district 47 percent households and in Karimganj 39.1 per cent households do not have drinking water facilities at home.
Drinking water is a major issue in both the hills districts too. In Dima Hasao district 43.9 per cent households and in Karbi Anglong distirct 30.7 per cent households do not have drinking water facilities.

In Spatial diversity category – 88 per cent households in Hill blocks and 84.6 per cent households in Char blocks do not have toilets. 47.1 per cent households in Char blocks, and 46.4 in multiple diversity blocks do not have electricity. In hill areas 38.6 per cent households do not have drinking facilities.

The religion-wise statistics of HDR Assa, 2014 has revealed 80.6 percent Muslims, 77.4 per cent Christian, 76.3 per cent others and 64.8 per cent Hindus do not have toilet facility. again, 46.4 per cent Muslims. 39.2 Christians, 34 per cent others and 24.2 per cent Hindus do not have electricity. 19 per cent Christians 13.9 per cent Muslims , 12.1 per cent Hindus, and 11.5 per cent others do not have driking water facilitiy at homes.
The Assam HDR Survey, 2013 covered 39,998 households covering 187,511 individuals in 27 districts, 97 Blocks, 95 urban centres, 1972 villages of the state.
