Latest flash statistics of Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) 2021-22, show that average books in each school library in all states in Northeast region is way below the national average of 713 books per library, book bank or reading corner.
Among all states in the country, Meghalaya accounts for the lowest average of only 95 books in each school library.
Contrasted to this, schools in New Delhi have 5,676 books in each library while Kerala has average 2580 books in each school. Chandigarh has the highest number of 8524 books in each school library.
Altogether 7,601 schools in Assam do not have any library, book bank or reading corner. The state has total 60,859 schools. In Meghalaya, of total 14,600 schools, altogether 6,376 schools have libraries.

In New Delhi, there are 5619 schools, and each school has a library. In Kerala out of 16,240 schools 15,987 schools have a library. In Chandigarh there are only 233 schools, 229 schools have a library. Altogether 1,89,186 schools in the country do not have a library.
Karnataka with total 76,450 schools has average 1547 books per library. Gujrata with 53851 schools has average 1096 books per library. Uttar Pradesh with 2,58, 054 schools has average 379 books per school library. Tamil Nadu with 58,601 schools has 1270 books per library.

The Report also states that with only 5 schools having a digital library, Mizoram stands third from below in state-wise list of schools having a digital library category. In Assam, only 314 schools have a digital library. This is followed by Meghalaya with 106 schools having a digital library. Sikkim with 1259 schools have digital libraries in 71 schools.
In Tamil Nadu, not a single school has a digital library.
